Info on Bachman DCC equiped engines!!!!!!!!

What do you guys think about bachman DCC engines? They have been on EBAY for 35.00 Buy Now ! Im seriously thinking on grabbing one of these. Has any body tried one of these yet? They have conrail, chessie, western Maryland GP-40's if any one wants to check them out.[?][?][?][?][?]

I saw one at my LHS Friday night. Inital impressions are good.[:D]
The body and paint is typical Bachmann. I looked at a Western Maryland GP40
Details are good, except for the fans.( detail of fans is poor,but easily replaced with detail parts)
Paint is a touch too thick (typical Bachmann) and the yellow paint in the footwells was wrong. [:(!]
Running on DC and DCC seemed good. True, its no Atlas or Kato, but it is well within the acceptable range. The directional lighting in DC mode was a nice touch.
After playing with it a few moments on a test track, I jokingly asked the price. WOW, $39.95 with a decoder already installed! NOT BAD!!!!! I honestly was expecting something in the 60-70 dollar range!
This engine could well be perfect for the modeler who wants to explore DCC, without spending big bucks. The Lenz developed decoder inside senses the operating system, and switches accordingly from DC to DCC and back, COOL!
You could run it at home on DC, take it to a club or friends house with DCC and run it there as well!
I would liken it to the Model T. Inexpensive, goes anywhere, and reasonably built. Could get a lot of folks riding in DCC mode soon!

I just bought a conrail & chessie GP-40 who cares Ill try it out! For the price of one Atlas I just got two equipped engines. Alittle paint some decals, and details I got me a new chessie

This is all great news. If anyone's been reading the couple of Bachmann DCC threads on here, it seems that there were quite a few doubting Thomases out there due to the quality of early Bachmann equipment (70's and 80's).

It looks like Bachmann might have a winner here and perhaps do to DCC what Bachmann has done with large scale, On30 and HO steam.

I have three of these Bachmann GPs (NS GP50 high-nose, SF GP40, and Alaska GP40) - mine are standard DC. They're really good value for money and a source of some unusual locos and paint schemes. Only thing I would like to see on these would be a flywheel on the motor, apart from that the chassis is up to the standard of Proto equipment. I'll agree body detailing is a bit strange - I'm gathering data to improve my three, but as the basics are good it's worth the effort. I'm now wishing I spent the extra few £s for the DCC versions - I didn't know they could auto-sense whether they were running under DC or DCC!

I recently was given one to test by my hobby dealer since he isn't into DCC yet and I am. These are fairly bottom line Bachmanns, but that only relates to detail level. The shells are stock and not road specific yet have a nice appearance. The introduction of the eight wheel drive in these engines makes a big difference DCC or not. The decoder in them is suppossed to be made by Lenz?

They run very smooth and can crawl along at very low voltages. Impressed for the price. The decoder has sufficient features for the engine. Reverse lightning and dimmable function. It is a 28 step decoder which is plenty for this line. The ability to program in a momentum or modify the deceleration helps to overcome the lack of flywheel drive somewhat. . It will slow down at a set rate instead of stopping quickly.

At present my engine is a tad noisey, but this is common for basic Bachmann's and they do get better with run time. All in all, I am impressed and it may be an indication of the hobbies future direction.
