We are safely back from visiting my parents. Driving was OK, the roads were all cleared and enough "salt & pepper" put on them to prevent icing up. It was only the last mile which was slippery and bad (funny, isn´t it always the last mile?).

The visit itself was, say, difficult. While it was good to see them, I also saw that they cannot cope with the daily chores any longer. The cleaning lady they had quit the job, and I have no doubts about her reason. My parents refuse any help. The place was a mess! We took my Mom to town to buy a few things they urgently need, gave the place a cleaning, took the garbage out, prepared lunch and, at last, enjoyed the birthday cake Petra has made for my father. As I wanted to be off the road at dark, we left around 3 pm, which was much longer than we had planned for. Both my parents wee exhausted and so are we.

Frankly, I don´t know what to do. They can´t go on like this, but there is no way I can force them to move. What worries me the most is, that my Mom still drives the car. I am pondering to ask the police to take her license away, before anything bad happens. But without the car, she can´t do the necessary shopping.

I feel so helpless!

TTFN
