How do I...
Posted by JERRY PAAUWE III on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 1:21 PM

How do I insert a photo into the forum? Kind of a dumb question but I cant figure it out. I've finished my benchwork after 10 months and would really like to share (proud of myself) Big Smile

Here are the Q&As/How Tos from this site

http://cs.trains.com/p/help.aspx#media

I have tried to post this as a live link using various tools, but for some reason it's live now, but when I hit the update button, it doesn't want to post live.

BTW, there really should be an easier way to post photos.

Link does not seem to work.

I have the same question on inserting pictures as I have not been able to find anything about how to do picture postings.  At  one point I thought I had read that you had to use a file sharing site such as photobucket.  I tried using photobucket but could not post pictures.  Some help for us clueless users would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to understand.  This site, CS.Trains. does NOT accept photos at all.   You have to post your photo on SOME OTHER website.  I use Photobucket, but any where ought to work.  You have to go thru what ever the OTHER website demands to get you pix posted there.

To get the picture to show on THIS website, you have to post a pointer, a Uniform Resource Locator aka URL, a long weird string of characters, to your photo.  You obtain the necessary URL from the OTHER website, do a copy (In Windows hit control C).  On THIS website click on the "Twin Mountains in Sunlight" Icon, lower toolbar inbetween the chain and the film-with-sprocketholes icons.   In Windows, do control V to paste the URL you copied into the "Source" box.  Click OK, and the photo ought to show in your post.

Note.  URL's can be formatted various ways.  For instance Photobucker offers four different formats.  The second one down from the top works here.  I assume the other formats work in other places.

This is the one and only image I've posted on another forum I frequent. For me it involved what seemed like a lot of song and dance to get it posted. I find using the IMG tag line in Photobucket to be much easier. Left click on the IMG code line. It highlights. Right click on the highlighted line. A menu appears. Scroll down and click 'Copy' then come back here. Position your mouse pointer where you want the image in your post. Right click. Scroll down and click 'Paste'. The IMG code line appears. Finish your post. Scroll down and click 'Submit Reply'.

What was the magic trick that got it to work?

Copying the IMG URL stuff from photobucket and then placing it into the actual txt, and not trying to use the insert/edit image. I really appreciate the help, wish there was an easier way to do it :)
