Does anyone know of some resources of modeling the 1980s. I was going to do a powerpoint presentation on this topic in the near future and was wondering if anyone had some ideas.
Thanks
Andrew

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
Just watch railroad videos from the 1980s. It doesn't matter which railroad. Studying freight cars and diesels will help you. Or probably watch 1980s documentary tv shows of that era.
Amtrak America, 1971-Present.
You tube has a lot of 1980 videos that shows the way it was..

Don't forget to read MR from the 80s and early 90s. The railroading that many see has historic was current modeling then.
Late 70s/early80s are a great era to model. Mergers were happening, but lots of equipment hadn't been repainted, so the mix of equipment would match some of the most eclectic tastes. Just starting to see modern intermodel, but the good old boxcar, esp in the variety of IPD schemes was everywhere.
Issues of Railway Age, a trade publication, from the era modeled is always interesting - including the ads.
Also Car and Locomotive Builder Encyclopedias from as close to your year, and the two preceding volumes, is helpful too. So the 1984 issue, 1980 issue and 1974 issue, would give you a good feel for equipment and paint schemes. They can be pricey but last spring I got the 1974 issue at a swap meet for $25, an outrageous bargain.
Issues of MR, RMC, Trains, R&R from the era are also useful. The suggestion about videos is a good one particularly if the videos show the train and not just the locomotives.
