Can anyone give me ideas on where to find decent quality SW (6/8/9, don't care) in HO scale for around $50.00? I'd rather not have to do any extensive bashing to convert to magnetic couplers. Thanks in advance![%-)]

Sailor,

Found a nice deal for you on EBay!

When you go to Ebay, type in P2K SW.

You will see two BRAND NEW Florida East Coast SW9s. Current bid is $27.99. The BUY IT NOW price lists for $32.00.

It's up to you but you can wait towards the end of the bid period, or you can lock it in and buy one right away. If you don't use a credit card (I sure don't with Ebay) you can always mail a Cashier's Check or Money Order.

Unless it's something "hard to get" I usually wait til the last hour before I bid on a locomotive or car I want.

Hope this helps!

Trainworld: http://www.trainworld1.com/index.html

Life Like Proto 2000 SW8/900/600 starting at $49.99
Life Like Proto Alco S-1 starting at $29.99
Bachmann Spectrum GE 44-tonners starting at $44.99

The S-1 is a steal at $30, considering it's overall high quality!

Athearn makes models of SW7s (with and without cabs). I don't know if they are currently making them, however, you could probably find some. I know some people on here would rather stop modeling trains than buy Athearn, however, I like their products.

Orsonroy is absolutely right! I picked up my NYC ALCO S1 from Trainworld for $29.99 (plus $7.95 S&H) two or three months ago. GREAT running and GREAT looking switcher. Couldn't be happier. [:D]

I also heard good things about the new "single-motor" BACHMANN GE-44's and would eventually like to get one myself. The older "dual-motor" (or should that be "duel-motor") versions had some problems.
