Removing body from chassis on Atlas RS-1
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, October 14, 2004 5:43 PM
Any of you fine gentle people able to help me remove the body from the chassis of an Atls RS-1. There are two screws on the underside, however, I have a hunch these hold the motor into the chassis. I need to install a decoder and engine crew.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Don't forget to disconnect the ends of the handrails on the sides of the cab before taking the body off, or you may end up stretching or breaking them.

I caught the cab hand rail detail. However, squeezing on the body above the fuel tanks does not seem to do the trick. Any more ideas?

I have an Atlas RSD-4/5 and it has small tabs at both ends of the carbody underneath the trucks! It took me forever to find them. Use a tiny flat-blade screwdriver to move them and pull up gently on the carbody end at the same time. The deck is a separate piece, so mark it with a pencil underneath with an arrow or something to indicate the front or cab end or whatever, or you might have trouble getting it all back together. As mentioned in an earlier post, remove the end handrails first - very carefully! Once you've figured out how its done, it should be easy to do (well, almost) once you need to do it again. The screws under the fuel tank are for the motor, so don't remove them until you need to.
