custom decals

Does anybody here have the ablity to make custom decals on their computer printer. I need a couple of sets for a tourist line that runs nearby to where I live. Fairly simple decals at that. Need enough to do one locomotive and 7 passenger cars. Thanks Mike

I'm not sure if you picked up any of the recent MR magazines or not, but if you have a chance to look through one, there's plenty of places that sell custom decals. You should also be able to find Decal paper for both inkjet and laserjet printers at your LHS or online. Just remember that the inkjet paper needs a special solution sprayed on it after it's printed and before it's applied. Otherwise the ink will run when it's dipped in water.

I know about the adds in MR, but they usualy want a min order of 25 sets. I could print them on my computer, but scaling the decals correctly for HO scale is one item I havent figured out yet. Mike

I wish it was that easy. I just went through the pain of trying this, to find my decals were transparent when applied. So now I 'm checking out custom decal companies.
I'll let you know when I get the results.

Check out your local library or office service store (like Kinko's). Libraries often have a computer you can use to access internet and use programs for writing, etc. I have used Microsoft Word to creat a "sheet" of words, numbers, symbols, etc for letterhead, etc. Then I go to Kinkos to out-put it. In a large city, other service bureaus and print shops should be able to help you along the similar line.
