Hi all

Weather's changed here - cloudless blue sky, temperatures in the 20s (Centigrade). Have spent most of the day running in my new LGB railcar outside.

Fergie, Sorry I stole the thunder! Think I read about them in New Scientist a few months ago. The other idea they came up with was to have an icebreaker with a bow at both ends, so you can have the icebreaking type aft and the standard bulb-type forward which should apparently result in a smoother ride off the ice (you'd just go astern through the ice field). Given what ferries intended to navigate in both directions tend to look like I suspect it would be a bit of a frankenstein lookalike!

Ryan, still no bans up here although the south-east has them. Given I usually wa***he car on average every 6 months (it's not worth doing it more often - it looks just as gungy again within a week in winter due to the number of trucks throwing road dirt everywhere) I'm not too bothered. My main worry with lack of rainfall is pollen, as I tend to get hayfever. Nasal spray stuff keeps it under control but if the count gets too high (as it does if there's no rain to wash it out of the air) even that doesn't work.

Peter, I've given serious thought to buying some Chinese HO stock - ehattons.com have some very good prices on the Bachmann models, one of the overhead electric locos and a set of matching coaches is very tempting. I did also attempt to find out if any of it could be reverse-engineered to model Russian equipment, given many Chinese designs are modified Russian ones it looked feasible but no luck in finding prototypes yet.

Bye for now
