Kitbashing a Missabe SD42-T3

What would be a good starting point for scratchbuilding a DMIR SD42-T3 locomotive? Has anyone ever tried to kitbash one, and how difficult would it be to modify one from a Athearn SD45-T2, or a Kato SD40-2 in HO?

That is obviously a former Southern Pacific unit so it exibits some SP details. An example would be the location of the lights in the nose and the "used to be" L windshild. Luckily for you, Athearn is releasing an SD45T-2 in their RTR line this winter and DM&IR might be among the released road names. When Athearn releases their 45T's you can compare the detail differences to what you might have to add. From what I've seen of the Athearn RTR, it's pretty accurate. However the pre-production version I saw was in an "as-delivered to SP" state so it exibited an L windshild, full light pacage, etc. If athearn decides to release a more modern version of their shell when the 45's are released, it would include the removed gyralight, and no L windshild for the cab. If athearn releases that version, a ba***o the DM&IR should be pretty easy.

As stated before by mario, a good starting point for a DMIR SD40-3 would be the new Athearn SD45T-2. Guess there wont be too much kitbashing...
