N Scale Kato Magnetic Couplers
Posted by PaulWhitt20 on Monday, September 13, 2004 6:23 AM
Hi,

Can anyone help me?
I am trying to magneticaly uncouple a Kato AC4400 from the Kato bethgons. I have replaced the trucks on the bethgons with Micro-Trians Trucks (1033) and they work fine bethgon to bethgon, but I can't get them to uncouple between the bethgon and loco. The loco has the long shank magnetic coupler fitted as comes in the box. Can you mix MT couplers with Kato or do I need to repace the Kato coupler with an MT one - how easy is it?

Thanks
Paul

Unless the Kato engine has MT couplers you won't be able to automatically uncouple. The MT couplers have that little hook that hangs down below the coupler. This is the part the uncoupling magnet pulls toward the outside of the track when there is slack in the couplers and the couplers are over the magnet. You'l have to replace the Kato coupler with an MT coupler. look on their web site. They should have the proper coupler conversion for your engine.
