N guage rolling stock

I am currently switching over to N scale from HO, and am looking for a supply of low priced rolling stock to 'populate' my layout with and get it up and rolling. Does anyone have any suggestions where I could find some. I have seen boxes of $2 and $3 Bachmann and Life Like rolling stock at train shows, but have been unable to find any online.

I occasionally see auctions on ebay that consist of entire collections of this type of rolling stock. Other than that, I'd say look around for a hobby store that is clearing out exta inventory. It's simply not worth bidding on these one at a time on ebay because the freight will double your cost.

I have several of these kinds of freight cars, but hope to eventually branch out into MT type quality cars. But the cost of these things are high. How does anyone afford to stay in this hobby??

You may regret "populating" your railroad with poorly made rolling stock down the road. If you do not want to spring for new, better quality cars, by far your best bet is train shows. There are some true bargains available on eBay, but you have to be patient. I picked up an InterMountain Refrigerator car kit for $7.51 that retails for $12.95, but only bid because the seller offered free shipping. Most hobby shops no longer have clearance tables - they too are on eBay!

From my experience the best places to buy n scale stock are ebay and toy train heaven. I'll rather prefer TTH (http://www.toytrainheaven.com)whose prices, in general, are very good particulary if you buy several items at a time. Ebay is often a good place too, but low-price good n scale stock has a great demand, so somethimes is hard to get a good deal. http://www.nscale suplay.com often comes with good deals. So far, the I've found the best deals in internet. Good luck.

Just from personal experience, I would suggest spending a little more and getting a good brand. I have had nothing but good luck with Atlas (usually only a buck or two more than the other brands you mentioned). I have a few Bachmann cars, and I have found that the Atlas run much smoother.

Gregg and the others are right. Buy the good stuff now adn you will not regret it. Like the "Fram" commertial "pay me now or pay me later"
