A walk down memory lane thanks to 7 years of old Mrr Mags

I bought 7 years of Late 70's and early 80's MRR's I'm back into this hobby after being out since about the mid 70's . It's a great walk down memory lane, but it also shows some Hot technologies that were ahead of their time. Lots of large clunky attempts at command control, Radio Control, and the next wave in Railroad modeling, something called Cirkit wiring tape. Tape with conductive traces and header blocks to be used in place of wire. Says this technology will replace all model railroad wireing in the near future. Looking at the size and especially cost of control back then, DCC is an Amazing bargain. I hear talk of Radio Control being the next wave, but Heck they had it back in 79.

A couple of other questions, when did Tyco and Mantua bite the dust ? Are they collectible or just toy junk, at least the Tyco's.

Do any of you remember getting the Newspaper type catalogs from AHC. They were about 20-30 pages with miniscule type, but great prices and more train stuff than I ever saw. I used to drool over them with a marker making up my wish list. But then being a teenager I had to find some way to get a money order or check to them, and then wait 2-3 weeks. Thanks God for the Internet and these Forums. It sure would be hard to buy by scouring the monthly ads in the back of MRR. But the Internet has sure killed the income to All hobby magazines for classified ads.

Lastly it's something to see 44 toners for $3.99, there choice of road :)

Enough Reminiscing (sp?) for now. Dave

At some point in the late 60's or early 70's Mantua became Tyco, but later I thought Mantua came back.

Varney might be collectable, Mantua and Tyco, doubtful.

If you really want to see prices get some from the 50's. I was flipping through a 1961 yesterday and saw Kadee couplers 2 pair for $1.20.[swg]
