Rather than listing your entire locomotive roster, I would like to ask those people, who like me, probably have too many locos; if they would list the 6 essential locos of their collection they would keep if they had to sell off everything else. Please try it ! It's really tough to choose.

I figure this will help me to decide what to keep. I'm mainly into first and second generation diesels.

6 huh!

Wow, make it tough why don't ya!

But, if I had to choose 6, they would be

My Proto D&H PA
My Athearn RTR VIA P42
My Athearn RTR CPR AC4400
My Athearn BB CPR SD40-2 (Beaver livery) with the new drive in it
My Proto D&H RS11
My Athearn SE SL&H SD40-2 set,

Ya ya I know that's 2 locomotives, but one's a dummy & they came in 1 box!

Gordon

Brought to you by the letters C.P.R. as well as D&H!

Six you say...well here they are in "N" scale:
1-my newly "won" 4-8-8-4 Big Boy
2-my Heritage 2-8-8-2 Mallet
3-my Model Power brand new 2-8-2 Mikado
4-my pair of DD40AX(Spectrum's)
5-my pair of SD-45(Kato's)
6-my SD-70(Kato's)
Pretty tough to select six, even eight...I cheated but I couldn't let these go.

Bachmann SN GE 44-tonner (second, single-motor version)--old reliable
Proto 2000 WP Alco S-1 (beautiful, runs great)--new reliable
Brass Baldwin-Westinghouse Class D (electric, looks good but needs new motor)--scarce!
Brass Birney trolley (scarce, prototype, needs repowering)
Bachmann SN GE 70-tonner (The two-motor Bachmann GE's have a bad rep, but mine works great, and it's my first kitbashed diesel!)

Too easy! No contest. I would keep my 2 BLI E-7's, My Stewart FT ABBA set and add the BLI NW-2 switcher I have on order The other 12 are all analog and I would let them go, or keep and convert 3 more FT's to DCC and let all the rest ( about 10) of the analog units go. Reason is I am converting to DCC and doing Free-mo modules because I prefer big curves and turnouts. I am also getting into operations on a friend's layout.

You're right it is a tough question! So after much thought.
1.First would be my old Athearn GP7 my late wife got me back in 75.
2.My Athearn MRS SW1500.
3.My CF7 and GP38-2 in Indiana Railroad.
4.My 2 R.J Corman geeps.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yes,all of the above units are Athearn..However these are my FAVORITE road name locomotives.Of course it would be hard to part with my Atlas,P2K and other Athearn locomotives especially the IHB units....[:(]

Six huh? That's easy, I can do it with one. I would keep my SRR 949 F-1 4-6-0. My Dad was fireman on the prototype in the thirties.

3 Atlas GP-38-3's Custom decorated and detailed for Maryland Midland
nos 300, 301, & 302
2 Heavily modifed D&H PA's. Athearn shells detailed with see through grills and with Helix Humper motors. They predate and will outrun the P2K offerings.
1 PFM brass 4-8-4 Western Maryland J-1 Potomac. Remotored and regeared, it rums like a ball bearing on a piece of glass[:D], the only modification I'm waiting on is the installation of a Tsunami sounde decoder as soon as I can get my hands on it.

Of course, it wont be easy parting with any of thier 67 other bretheren! [V]

Six? OUCH! Okay, if pushed to the wall, this is what I'd keep.
My 2 AKANE Missabe road 2-8-8-4's.(Re-lettered into the 'never was' Rio Grande L-148 3900 series)
My BLI SP AC-5 4-8-8-2
My PFM Rio Grande L-131 2-8-8-2
My Key Rio Grande M-68 4-8-2
My PFM kitbash Rio Grande F-81 2-10-2
And after that, I'd spend a lot of time in mourning for the rest of my steam fleet.
