Just joined this forum tonight. I've been a model rail road fan all of my life. My Dad introduced me to this great hobby as a little kid. He is still very interested and is looking forward to our combined efforts regarding our future layouts.
My Dad bought his frist O gauge trains right after his discharge in WWII. I have many fond memories of my Dad, Uncle and myself running the trains during Christmas time in the apartment in Brooklyn. We still have the Lionels all in their original boxes. The old ZW transformer, accessories, tracks, ect. We plan to have an O gauge and HO set up.
The new house in Virginia will have the HO in the lower level which I'll be starting very soon and the O gauge will be in a large room over the garage. I always wanted to be able to have a permanent layout. Now I'll finally be able to get started on this life long interest. I just hope my Pop will be able to have enough steam left in him to enjoy the results.
The HO layout will be built along an uneven wall on a 2 foot platform that is in the shape of a large question mark. The longest straight section is approximately 18 to 20 feet. I'm still in the planning stages as to what the layout will be. Definitely two levels. From what I've seen on this forum, I'll get plenty of ideas and very usefull information.
Looking forward to our future conversations!!!

Lots of great info lies in the back posts too. There's a decent search function. Makes for lots of good reading when you have time. It's also worthwhile checking out the other forums both under Model railroader, and also the other sites here such as Trains and Classic Trains.

WELCOME!!!
My experience with Dad buying the train and all when I was a little kid (3), and after WWII, is similar, except in my case it was 1956.
Hope we can give you good answers and info you can use here. And if we don't know, we'll be happy to make something up! [:-^]
