BLI Naming Problem?
Posted by WickhamMan on Monday, August 23, 2004 11:42 AM

I just purchased a Broadway Limited 6-4-6 Hudson with the TH&B naming scheme (road number 502). The lettering on the tender reads:

"Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo RY"

Is this a typo? Should it be "NY" and not "RY"? If not, what does RY stand for?

Thanks in advance.

I think the RY stands for RailWay. But I could be wrong.

Ry is correct. Canadian usage is generally Railway instead of Railroad.

So Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo Ry is correct for a TH&B locomotive.

Railway is /was also used here in the States such as Chesapeake & Ohio Railway..This was common with railroads base in the South in the early years of railroads.

Thanks for the quick reply everyone. I knew that I must have been missing something on this. Also, I mis-typed, it is a 4-6-4, not a 6-4-6. Picky, picky.[:)]
