Zoe, a large coffee for me - I can barely keep my eyes open this morning!

I see the rest of you are still in bed, so I'll just post a few replies...

Cape-Jim :
QUOTE: Originally posted by JimRCGMO
Ken (Larsen), I’d like to see your technique for the stripes once you’re done. Since I will be using SP/ATSF style zebra striping on my diesel switchers, that could help me out (maybe even save buying the decals?).
Sorry to disappoint you, but I did use decals (home grown)…I never mastered the art of masking, and I don’t have a fraction of the patience required for this type of pattern. I’m still slogging thru putting up my benchwork/track as well, these J-units are causing me to lose my focus on that unpleasant – but critically important – task. But I did photograph the steps of creating and sizing the decals though…

Mountain-Tom:
QUOTE: Originally posted by tomwatkins
Ken, I really like those, especially the one about "honey-due". That's very true.
That’s a critical issue for me since I can never get a grip on Quantity Control! [:D]

Northern Phil:
QUOTE: Originally posted by philnrunt
Kenlarsen- That scheme for your SDs looks great. The black roof sets them off . And what TEFFY said is probably true about financially strapped general comodity shortlines, but surely yours is a union shop, with United Steel Workers representation, no way they would run their units in the mills in the summer without air. Anyway, AC units look good sitting on top of Great Pumpkins like ours. I'm gonna put 'em on mine, hang the cost! My employees are more important than a good bottom line!
Thanx for the compliment. I haven’t yet made up my mind about those AC boxes. Maybe I could try doing what CSX does and put white on the top surface of the cab. But then again, didn’t the Milwaukee have black roofs on their orange locos?

Trolley Rob:
QUOTE: Originally posted by trolleyboy
Ken I like the early scetches of your paint scheme. The diagonal stripes are close to CN's zebra stripe scheme. Microscale makes a really good set of just the stripes which would make your painting and decalling a lot easier.
Oops, I suspected that my homegrown ones were unnecessary![:I] Oh well, knowing my LHS the way I do, they wouldn’t have had those in stock anyway…
QUOTE: Later post by trolleyboy
Hey Ken they look good so far.I like tthe nice contrast with the orange and black. Are you going to go with the nose herald you had on the paint drawings as well?
Thanx Rob for the positive feedback! Yes, I do plan to use the ‘I’ with the smaller embedded ‘B’ – that will be the easy part, compared to making up these diagonal stripes. I wanted to get this one unit done early, to reassure myself that is “do-able” by an amateur like myself[:D]. Now I really need to get back to the not-as-fun task of building a layout (so much track to lay, so little patience).
. . .
All good things must come to an end, even weekends [sigh]...time to go and get myself ready for work. 'Later!
