Just saw a model brass 2-4-6-4 loco for sale, was there ever this class of loco? who ran them? great looking (but strange). Also is (was) there an historical book on brass locomotives? and does it list ALL brass locomotives? steam--diesel or both, If it does , it must be a monster of a book to include all manufacturers and/or importers thanks.

I saw the same engine on ebay but it is really a 4-4-6-4 Q2 PRR and yes they had twenty five of these.
He states it is in very good condition, and then describes the missing parts and the Cab needs to reattached.

Here is what the ad said: Here's a HO Brass 2-4-6-4 United Loco & Tender NEEDS HELP!! Condition is Very Good - Has some problems - Cab needs to be attached. I know it runs cause I Tested a long time ago but now I noticed a part broken that guides the left front steam rod - part is missing so wont work until fixed. Also needs some small screws to reattach boiler. Lots of potential here!! Sold As Is

There actually is (or rather was) a book on brass locomotives. It was called [i]The Brown Book of Brass Locomotives{/i]. See link here: [url}http://www.allbookstores.com/book/0801983959[/url]. Unfortunately, it's about 10 years out of date. However, it'll list everything done up to about 1994 or so.

It's really kind of hard to support your local hobby shop when the nearest hobby shop that's worth the name is a 150 mile roundtrip.

The Santa Fe had a Mallet 4-4- 6-4 a combined Alantic and Pacific with combined firebox and cab. Problem was Mallet's were too slow for the Santa Fe - (even for freight,and Santa Fe's firebox was roo small for Mallet's. Santa Fe didn't keep them very long. I wasn't aware any other roads had this articulated configuration.

A one-of-a-kind model that If it needs work, better build in a large cost of repair cushion as parts are non-existant.
