Good Afternoon Folks,

took the sun a little longer today to clear the fog, but now it is sunny again. We were woken up quite early this morning by a terrible noise. Cranes gather at a nearby meadow for their journey to the south and you would not believe, what a terrific noise thousands of those huge birds can make!

Janie, a mug of coffee, please and a handful of those chocolate chippers!

A friend of mine was pestering me about some layout ideas, I guess, he just wants to get me out of my bad mood. Well, any which way, I warmed up my PC over the last days, and with some input from others in this forum, I came up with this track plan:

It is a western-themed layout, set in the dry southwest of the US, around 1910/1920, as for earlier periods, there is not much of a choice of locos & rolling stock. I was trying to get him hooked on my previous ARR ideas, but just as much as a lot of folks think of lederhosen and beer, when they hear Germany, the people here think of gunslingers, Festus Higgins, Miss Kitty, Wyatt Earp - well, Western movies. So the layout needs to have a "Gun Smoke" flavor.

Sorry guys, you are now in for this:

"Dear God, you made many, many poor people.
I realize, of course, that it's no shame to be poor.
But it's no great honor either!
So, what would have been so terrible if I had a small fortune?"
If I were a rich man,
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.
I'd build a big tall house with rooms by the dozen,
Right in the middle of the town.
A fine tin roof with real wooden floors below.
There would be one long staircase just going up,
And one even longer coming down,
And one more leading nowhere, just for show.
I'd fill my basement with a layout like the one above, mighty and fine,
For the town to see and hear.
And each locos loud "chuff" and "toot" and "honk" and "whine"
Would land like a trumpet on the ear,
As if to say "Here lives a wealthy man."
If I were a rich man,
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man.
I see my wife, my Petra, looking like a rich man's wife
With a proper double-chin. [(-D]
Supervising meals to her heart's delight.
I see her putting on airs and strutting like a peacock.
Oy, what a happy mood she's in.
Screaming at the servants, day and night.
The most important men in town would come to fawn on me!
They would ask me to advise them,
Like a Solomon the Wise.
"If you please, Reb Ulrich..."
"Pardon me, Reb Ulrich..."
Posing problems that would cross a rabbi's eyes!
And it won't make one bit of difference if i answer right or wrong.
When you're rich, they think you really know!
If I were rich, I'd have the time that I lack
To sit in the synagogue and pray.
And maybe have a seat by the Eastern wall.
And I'd discuss the holy books with the learned men, several hours every day.
That would be the sweetest thing of all.
If I were a rich man,
All day long I'd biddy biddy bum.
If I were a wealthy man.
I wouldn't have to work hard.
If I were a biddy biddy rich,
Yidle-diddle-didle-didle man. [:-^]

No Janie, put that frying pan down - I´ll stop singing right now.

You all have a good Columbus Day!

P.S. Still no word from Keith!
