Roundhouses and turntables?

Most modern facilities use a "wye" to turn locos although they don't really need turning. A wye is about zero maintenance and can be used without help from an operator. A roundhouse was used to service and store steam power mostly because it took so much time and manpower to get it ready for a new run. When a diesel is done for the day just leave it idling, lock the cab, and come back tomorrow then sand it, fuel it, and run it. Any major breakdowns and refits are handled by huge regional or national rebuilders.

Luck
