Auction sites?
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, August 3, 2004 9:57 PM
Last time I had my model RR up and running, I bought engines because they "looked neat". Now that I'm rebuilding it (benchwork almost done -- yay!), I've decided to keep it all within a single decade. So I've got a couple of engines to sell that have barely been used (some still original in the box) that are the wrong era.

Is Ebay the way to go? Or is there a model RR specific auction site out there?

There is choo choo auctions(www.choochooauctions.com), but it's geared more toward the toy train crowd(3 rail O, Standard Gauge, and American Flyer S gauge). Some scale items do come up at times, though.

There's a web site called www.jamesjreeves.com that you can sell almost anything to but I'm not sure if there still buying railroad items.

is there a reason why you would not choose eBay? There are more auctions and more bidders there than on any site in the world. It seems to me the answer is a no brainer.

Some time ago I checked out Yahoo Auctions for model railroad items - there was but a handful of items, mostly overpriced.

Good luck!

No reason not to choose eBay -- I was just curious if there was a model RR specific site. Couple years back i sold some ham radio stuff I wasn't using anymore, and had greater success on a ham radio specific site than I did on eBay. But I guess eBay rules the world these days. [:)]

You certainly will have more potential buyers looking at your item on eBay than any other site. It is a no brainer.

Modular railroading at its best!
If it has an X in it, it sucks! And yes, I just had my modeler's license renewed last week!

Thanks, all! I put two Con-Cor GP-40's up on eBay today . They're still in the box, never been run, so they'll (hopefully) be the first to go.
