Flex track

When buying HO flex track is there a difference between Atlas brand and Model Power brand. I checked the prices and found that I can buy Model Power brand track for a much lower price. Is there a big difference in quality. Thanks.

Be sure that the track you are buying has nickle-silver rail. Many of the cheaper brands of track have steel rail or brass rail. These cheaper types of track are difficlut to keep clean because they oxidize into a non-metallic oxide that does not conduct electricity very well. My experience is that you don't want to skimp on the track. A few extra dollars are well spent in this area.

A big AMEN to jim's comment. It will be worth it just for the lack of headaches and aggravation to purchase the quality track. Don't be fooled or tempted by the lower price of inferior track. There is a reason it is so cheep and that is because they can't get ride of it. So they try to give it away (in a sents) to those who know no better..............Jamie

Thats all I use is the Atlas nickel silver flex and that works like a charm! I soundly agree with everyone else.

TIM,If you check MR some of the bigger mail order houses have deals on bundles of ATLAS flex,What the others have said is true you will be happy further down the road with better flex track!!!!

I aggree, 100%! Go with the Atlas flex-track, with nickel silver rail. It costs more, but the extra money is worth it. Oh, and despite what someone else said, noone makes brass rail anymore.

Unfortunately, there is still brass track around.
It still comes with the "Department store-Grocery store'' train sets sold before Christmas each year.
The sets have Mehano engines and really bad freight cars [all made in Slovenia], and a VERY low end powerpack. I've had more than one beginner [or parents] come to me with what to do about these sets, and the only viable solution is to start over, with real equipment.regards/Mike
