Railroads don't use control towers with the exeption of the ATSF tower in Barstow, California.

I think even the Barstow tower has been closed and replaced with automated signals, since BNSF and UP are the only two roads that still cross there.

Ah, you mean an INTERLOCKING tower. I think just about every model building company in the hobby makes three (OK, I'm exaggerating, but just barely). Type in "tower" in a Walthers search. I just did, and came up with over 150 hits. I'm sure there's something close to what you're looking for there.

Dougal,

You sure know how to pick them! That's a very interesting shot!

That vehcile on the extreme left looks like a tiny portion of the nose, windshield and number board of one of the Pennsy E-units that was restored a few years ago! Nice!

Silver Champion: Fortunately there are tower kits available. Look in the Walther's catalog. A lot of the towers in the Northeast are or were two story brick structures of various widths.

Let us know what you find and decide on.

Cheers!

Many yards still use control towers (maybe the real name is different) because they offer the yard manager a good overview of what is going on.

The CN Joffre Yard in Charny, Québec has one about 5 story high. The Québec-Gatineau yard (formerly CP) in Québec City has one about 4 story high.
