Pioneer Zephyr in HO & N

Any serious modelers considering the $340.00 + Zephyr to be released
late summer/fall?

Don, yes it is. There was a comment made about it in the "MR EXPRESS" featured here on trains.

I always wanted some Q action. Was my favorite road West of Lake Mi but my in-house supervisor,
being from the East side of the Lake, wanted Eastern names. I have learned to obey but now She has become tolerable.

As you know Con-Cor is very seldom referred /reference to and lacks popularity at least in HO.

Not only would I expect quality but also top notch performance/warranty and creditability of the vendor.

I learned from my prior bad(many) choices of the older Rivarossi line(ModelExpo). It took me 10 long months to build up courage to buy the Allegheny and the latest FEF-3. My decision to buy in both cases was predicated on the professional word of Phil Walthers.

Am I asking too much for $340.00 and who else is considering? That model can fit many layouts
since it traveled the Country on it's maiden voyage and now it's resting at the Chgo MSI.

Every- body is asking, will Atlas produce steam? Gee whiz , here's a train that made history
and Chuck is one of the few that's asking about it.

Since I prefer passenger trains, I would love to have the Zephyr if it fit my time period. Maybe I should just set it on a siding by my passenger station as a museum piece! [:)]

I am debating wheather I want to buy it or Go ahead and Kit bash it. An article on how to kitbash it from Athearn Passenger car bodies appeared in MR in the early 80s. I have been sloly looking over the years for the parts to go ahead and construct it.

I also have the plans and a Scratch build is also a possibility.

I'm seriously tempted, as I am quite pleased with the Galloping Goose they
made. Very impressive, and worth the money given its a niche-market
item.

If the Zephyr lives up to the standard set by Con Cor's goose, I'll probably
get one.

Unless Con Cor has made drastic improvements and changes to their motors and drives, you might wind up with a locomotive that you don't want to put on your track because it will be so erratic.

For a $189.00 a pop I would hope so. What are the warranty terms and options available out of warranty service?

I recall that Con-Cor also wanted to do a four car electroliner but didn't develope sufficient
pre-sale interest to mass produce.

Locomotive3 is quite correct, Con Cor's track record on specialty items is 50/50. Their Electroliner, as I recall, was announced as a 4-car train, was down-sized to a 3-car offering, and then was cancelled completely when pre-sale orders failed to meet expectations. Just as is the case of the Pioneer Zephyr, the Electroliner's price turned out to be too high for what was being offered - it's probably more of a niche item than the Goose. In my opinion, today a $350 niche item better come complete with sound or it isn't likely to sell very well.

ConCor doesn't identify with 'high end - but then neither did Bachmann.

I'd like to have a CB&Q Zephyr. I sold my Nickle Plate products version because it ran horrendously . If they have a KATO drive, It'll be winner.
- As for sound? Didn't the 'Pioneer' use a Winton Engine?
IF so, who would know what they sounded like? Con Cor??

I would love to get a shovel nose Zephyr. Two problems for me. I can but an awful lot of other stuff for $340. Second, I am not willing to pre-order something of this value from a manufacturer that does not have a reputation for high quality, detailed, great running locomotives. If this was a Proto 2000 heritage release, it would be a different story.

After five business days, still no response from Con-Cor either to my post or directly to me.

Maybe like Atlas, gone fishing.
