Looking for model Railroad clubs, Org. In Oklahoma
Posted by lippy on Friday, February 18, 2011 10:51 PM

I'm restarting an ho model railroad, it's been a long time since I was involved in the hobby. I would like to see some of the new tech. in action. As I live in the country and only have a phone line internet, it is almost impossible to down load action videos.     I live between Ada & Mcalester a small town called Allen. Would like to meet folks with the same interests in this area.  Thankyou for your time    Lippy

If you go to the top of this page, to the light gray line, find RESOURCES.  You will find both Coming Events and Model Railroad Groups listed there.  When you get those screens up , click on All .... over on the left side.  You will then have your choice, either fill in your zip code and the number of miles you are willing to travel or just fill in your state.  That wil give you listings of things in your area.

Good luck,

Richard

Lippy,

Allen was on the KO&G and I remember much railfanning involving meets at the siding there chasing to and from my home town of Durant.

Unfortunately finding Model Railroad oriented activities will likely involve travel, OKC or Tulsa in Oklahoma, Fort Smith in Arkansas or if you are really brave Dallas-Fort Worth in Baja Oklahoma Texas.  There are a few Model Railroaders in Durant, still, but no club to my knowledge.

Best of luck looking!

Another thing you can do is to go to any hobby shops in the area and leave your name (maybe on cards).  Ask the sales people to give them to folks who buy model rr items.  Put on the card that you are interested in meeting mrr folks in the area.  By doing it this way you are not asking for peoples names, but you are giving permission for yours to be distributed.  A better business pratice for the shop owners.

Good luck,

Richard

There is a terrific NMRA/LDSIG/OpSIG meet scheduled in Tulsa March 18-20. There will be a number of layouts on tour, clinics, op sessions, etc.

Thanks for the post. It looks interesting, something I will try to attend. I lived in Hell Michigan for close to thirty years. Worked in the Ann Arbor area. I started building an ho layout there. I wish I would have been more involved as their were several clubs in the area. Just not many here.

Again thanks for your time.  Lippy

Thanks for pointing that out. I did not find what I was looking for ,but did find some places worth checking into. Buy the way I run ten head of brangus on my small ranch, some chickens and one piglet. Is it just a nickname or do you raise cattle? Thanks for your time. Lippy

Mark Unfortunely they pulled all the rails and replaced it with a park. There is a rail station at Pauls Valley, just west of us about fifty five miles. My wife goes to Michigan by rail from there. They have a small museum with an old steamer on display, looks nice. Thanks for the info. Lippy

Lippy,

Had a 30 cow dairy and replacements until Nov 09.  Since I was working alone it made for long days, as I drove school bus to support them.  Now I have more time and a little herd of 9 beef cows (3 are coming first calf this spring).  I still have last years calves and some others I bought to put in the spring sale.  Think this fall I will put the spring calves in the fall sale and just feed the cows over the winter.

I still haven't gotten used to being done with chores and finished supper by 6:00 when the wife leaves for work.  I am beginning to use the time better.  Read the forums and model rr mags as well as put some time in on my little layout.

I have about an hours drive to any shows around here, but a friend and I go together and have a day out.  Our states big show is coming up in two weeks, but I have a conflict.  DARN!  Have gotten another fellow started modeling too.  Pretty gung ho at the moment, hope he stays interested.  We all seem to be lone wolves, but I do talk things over and look at their work and do some problem solving together. We just don't run our layouts other than solo at this point.

Good luck in finding some folks in your area.

Have fun,

Richard

I'm an Oklahoma ex-patriot lost in Indiana. You might contact Whistle Stop Trains in OKC, I would think that they might direct you if there was one in the area. They are also the ones that organize the big OKC train show. I used to be a member of a club in Stillwater and wonder if that one is still operating?

I am a native "okie" trapped in Kansas City for more years than I like to think about, but, I grew up in Enid and at that time there were several modelers.  Haven't been down home for a year, so can't say what's going on now, but it seems to be there was a fairly good hobby shop on the south side along the highway west.

Hey, I'm kinda lost myself... I'd like to find some "O" gauge people (3 rail) in the OKC area. If anyone could steer me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it...

Welcome, you'll probably find more useful responses over at the sister forum devoted to O Gauge trains.
