such a thing as too hot?

Is it possible that my train could become damaged being in an upstairs room in the hot Kansas summer? No ventilation, just air-cond when I'm in there? Please, I really want to know.... Thanks[:I]

Yes, there is a great possibility of warping to plastic bodies on your locomotives and rolling stock. I once had some autoracks that warped causing some of the side panels and roofs coming off. At the time, my collection was sitting in a non-airconditioned room.

It's best to store your train collection in a cool dry location perferably in the basement. If you don't have a basement, then pick an area that's air conditioned, but out of the way so you're not tripping over them.

Hope this helps [:)]

Take care,

Good advice!

Also, do not throw away the boxes that your cars and locomotives come in! You can store your equipment back in them though Kadees may make it "tight". If you ever decide to sell some of your rolling stock pieces or locomotives, the boxes add value to them. [:D][;)]

Take care! [:)]

Even keeping plastic trains in an enclosed car on a hot day can cause warping of the plastic -- and the lubrication can dry out too. A friend of mine once got a Mantua 2-8-2 at reduced prices because it was sitting in the hobby shop window facing the sun -- and while the metal boiler and parts were OK, the plastic tender warped beyond usefullness.

Also, if you handlay your track, heat can cause expansion and contraction of the ties, causing your track to go out of alignment. I heard this can also happen even with flextrack. proper gapping may help. I know from experience wood ties expand in heat and contract in cold.
