A- The UP hasn't broken any laws.
B- The UP isn't a company that's going broke. Wake up and read a real newspaper once in a while instead of all the dribble on these forums.

The UP is hauling more cars than it did last year and that's more than it did the year before that and the year before that and the year before that, etc.
It is actually trying to figure out how to limit its business so it can handle it all. And it will still be handling record volumes even after turning away some customers.

A lot of the congestion isn't screw-ups, a lot of it is its handling way more cars than it was 5 or 10 years ago.

Enron was a ponsey scheme with intentional misleading by management which is totally illegal.

Union Pacific is, more and more, appearing to be just a classic case of mismanagement. Lack of wisdom and vision is not a crime but is grounds for dismissal of upper management.

UP and many other companies have been run too long with only short term goals. Nothing illegal, but they seem only interested in doing whatever it takes to have good financial numbers in the current quarter regardless of what the effect may be in the long term. This is what ultimately causes meltdowns, turned down business, and lagging performance both on the physical property and Wallstreet. It's the old pay me now or pay me later adage.

To me, having a long term vision is more advantagious both for the railroad and the stockholders. With it you may suffer a little in the current quarter or the next but you will be ready for larger returns when they present themselves in times like these.

People voting "yes" to this poll show a remarkable ignorance of : __e___

a. the law
b. economics
c. business practices
d. railroads
e. all of the above

It's time for the forum moderator to BAN these threads.

And/or the people who start them.

People think the ATLAS FORUM is bad about such threads ???

This forum takes the prize !

At least on the Atlas forum the arguments usually have some INTELLIGENCE behind them.

And moderators who DO THEIR JOBS.

But I don't care.

This forum is not worth my time.

I have outgrown it.

First, I want a forum that is a good resource for learning new things about this hobby. That resource is not here.

Second, I want a forum that makes me enjoy the hobby, not one that turns me off to the hobby like this one.

And thrid, I don't have either the time nor patience for the childish behavior allowed to continue ad nauseam on this forum.

When (if) some of you grow up and realize you want to grow in the hobby, you might try some of the more advanced forums, such as the one on the Atlas website.

If you do, I'll see you and the other Atlas castaways there in August.

But I won't be back here.

Goodbye.

I don't see any similarities whatsoever between UP and Enron, other than the fact that they are large corporations, I would say the similarities end there.
