Super Detailing Parts
Posted by TrainFreak409 on Friday, July 2, 2004 7:42 PM
Where is a good place to order super detailing parts from? Parts like M.U. hoses, vents, sunshields, and so on. I will need them for PROJECT FRANKENSTEIN.

I know research is a must when super detailing, but in this case, a fictional locomotive can be customized without limitation. [:D]

Any tips from superdetailers?

I usually get my parts at my LHS or order from Walthers.

Makers include:

A-line, Cal-Scale, Detail Associates, Details West, Cannon and Smokey Valley.

You might try browsing the Walthers web site.

Have fun with your project !

i also always get my detail parts from www.walthers.com you pay full retail from them, but with detail parts, there is only a few cents difference. plus, they carry just about everything. and with their search feature, finding what you want is easy.

Actually, the makers are different in different scales. I assume that you are referring to HO superdetail parts, correct?

It would really help to get yourself a Walthers catalogue.
There are parts you might see and want/need, but not know the name of to look up on the Walthers web site.
Yes, the catalogue is 20-some bucks, but you don't need one every year, and you'll probably wear it out looking through all the stuff that's out there.
If you know the name of an item, you can always look it up on their web site.

Do a google for Miniatures by Eric - good web site with lots of pictures. He has lots and lots of diesel parts, and some steam.

Details West have a very good website at www.detailswest.com - they have photos of parts, and some guides to detailing certain loco types which might be useful - one of the guides covers F-units. Just need to get round to ordering a few of their Dash 9 detail kits for my fleet - the results on their website are superb - you'd be unable to spot that the base model was an Athearn "Blue Box"!
