HO scale U.P. GP38's

i see that Atlas and P2K are releasing U.P. GP38's, now i have both At;as and P2K locos. but which one would you reccomend? im interested in what you guys think..it would help me alot. right now i am leaning towards P2K because i could lash it up with my GP60's, but i dont know..its hard to give me your opinions without having seen the loco's, but i have only had my locos for about 2 years, and am interested in which brand you think would last better in the long run?

I havea couple of each brand and they are both very good. i've had some of each for at least 5 years and had no problems. I can find the LL P2K models on the net at a better price. This is the only thing that would sway me towards the LL P2k. However if a roadname or new model type is introduced in either brand, I would buy it.

The Atlas will be a tick better than the LL P2000.

I have the Atlas UP GP 38 - very good!

The Atlas is a GP38, and a superb loco - great detail and drive!

The P2K is a GP38-2, also with great detail and a very good (better than Athearn) drive.

Get both !!!!!!!

I would vote for the Atlas. I think the drive is a little more robust than the P2K. I've had both and I prefer the Atlas. I find the Atlas easier to work on if you need to as well.

It comes down to what you are modelling.... Both are excellent locomotives, but the P2K is a GP38-2 not a GP38. So do you want a GP38 or GP38-2?

Here, around Shakopee, MN the UP uses GP38-2 for yard and local work. For the trains to/from Mankato most are GE AC's with some EMD SD90MAC's thrown in. The train we saw Saturday morning through Jordan MN had three locos: GE AC, 90MAC, GE AC; whole train was grain hoppers doing about 55mph.
Nigel N&W in HO scale, 1950 - 1955 (..and some a bit newer too) Now in San Jose, California
