Hi Warren
There is another viewpoint and that is that Modelrailroading should be fun. Turntables are not as common as they used to be but they do still exist in operational use. In model form they have the advantage of using animation to concentrate attention on the loco stud. This is one case where you cannot compromise on quality & from personal experience I would suggest you consider Fleischmanns offering, a real state of the art beauty. The turntable enables you to utilise a relatively confined area to display your loco fleet. I suggest you situate the turntable such that it enables your locos to gain ready access to the yard. Consider also making a separate module for the turntable, which will enable you to gain access to the turntable and roundhouse if you have one, for detailing purposes. I got the idea from an article in MR by Bruce Chubb on his "Sunset Limited". I hope this helps. If you need any further suggestions please ask.
Consider also a preserved steam loco for "occasional" fan trips.
All the best.
