Signals

How do I install LED signals in my layout? I have no idea where to start, and I don't have a computer for it. I will be using DCC on my layout. Can you give me a website where I can learn to do this?

What type of LED signals are you wanting? LEDs on your control panel? LEDs on turnouts? What? People can't help with such vague requirements.

http://www.gatewaynmra.org/detection2.htm
http://www.baylug.org/zonker/ZSignal.html

Do any of these help?

They may not be exactly what your looking for but they might offer some healthy advice to installing them. I have been researching this the past few weeks BUT all the bookmarks I have are at work (hee hee, workin hard that day). So, above is what I could quickly find for you.

Hope it helps

elias: I have an all-Atlas layout and do it this way: I have interfaced at least 16 signals through Snap-relays with the switch machines. The LEDs don't blow-out so they will last forever. Every time a switch is thrown, the signal turns either red or green. Perfect. They are super easy to hook up, too. I suppose Tortoise slow-motion machines can be used, but they look intimidating to wire.

i'm planning to add some signals to my layout when i get a little farther along with it. i am going to use some electronic detectors that go in the feeder wires for each section and detect the current flow to the locomotives. then i am going to add some more relays to get the signals to function similar to the prototype. i don't want occupancy detection but the signals will have route indication and traffic direction control. i may also try to have the signal control power to the blocks ( red signal= no power to the block) so if the train runs the red the brakes will go in emergency. i had signals on a previous layout using some relays and walthers trigger track and they worked fine.
