Jordan: Yes, I will definitely sand the edges of the cork roadbed. I did that in the old Concord yard and it made a huge difference.

I spent all weekend on the layout... The cork roadbed is all laid and I'm halfway done with the track. Dooley has all the track done up to the Stude border on the east, and is connected to the old finished track (the pass) to the west. And the Stude crossovers are in and connected to West Formanek to the west. To the east there's still one double track stretch till the mainline is complete again. Here's some photos.

Those boxcars are on the siding for what will be Agrawal Paper. The track to the left will be street running (the right main will be uncovered because of the switches). Only a few of the buildings I used to mock-up the scene will be used; the rest will be used as trade fodder (I have a friend modeling the early 1900s, so they'll fit in) for more modern-era buildings.

That small yellow building on the close side of the tracks with the abandoned siding out front (or is it the back?) used to be the ice house, but is long abandoned. The abandoned siding will be partly buried in the road.

This is the farm (only New Englanders will know what I'm talking about, it's not a crop farm at all) just west of Dooley. That old road you see (it'll be covered over with scenery) was actually the railroad's "Signature Scene" which is no more...The hill is extra foam I had broken up and covered with plaster cloth.

...And Dooley is connected to the rest of the layout! These are where the mainline comes off the pass and up onto the new cork roadbed.
