A real Train Yard
Posted by FThunder11 on Saturday, May 15, 2004 5:30 PM
Today, may 15th, i got to go to my first real trainyard. I was at a friends house and on the way we went over a bridge that had a yard on the north side. After spending some time at his house i asked if i could go for a walk. Luckly i had my camera. I walked back to the bridge and took about 20 pictures! It was so awsome. This was the closest I've ever been to a real train!!!! I didn't realize that they were SO big. ANyway, 2 trains came from the other side of the bridge and were right under me. There was so much action in the yard. Unfortunatley, it was about 50 miles south of where i live and its hard to get down there. But It definatly made my day. [:D][:D][:D][8]

Pueblo, Colorado. On the West side of town. I thinks its the only major yard in town, although there is another one a little south of there.

FThunder11, Im glad you enjoyed it, I remember growing up with my younger brother and we would go to a overpass near a yard and watch all the action. In those days it was Chessie System though. I hope you have many more enjoyable times trackside.
Highball....Train looks good device in place!!

I'm lucky enough to live by Norfolk Southern's (ex Conrail, exx CNJ, LV, and RDG) Allentown Yard. BethIntermodel is also near me so we get stacks and RoadRailers out of the Lehigh Valley also.

you think the trains are big when you're above them on a bridge, wait til you get right down next to the tracks! I've been standing mere feet from the tracks as intermodal freights go flying past at 30-40 mph, hard on the whistle. One of the biggest shows of power you will ever see. You can feel the train go by.

And I know someone is going to say it... yes I'm careful standing so close to tracks, and yes I'm required to do so by my job.

Hi
As a RR employee "What the HELL do you think your doing!![:)] go on clear off[:)]"
Most railways take a dim view of the public being so close to the line.
Never mind being carefull make sure you have a RR safety vest and appropriate footware and permission to be there, if you go about it the right way you will be amazed at where you can get into if you get permission and a guide.
Enjoy but go about it the right way.
regards John

He did say he was on a bridge that crossed over the railroad yard, that he crossed on the way to his friends house. Dan
