N-scale coupler conversion

I have an N-scale Life-Like New Haven FA1/FB1 set and wi***o covert it to Micro Trains Magne-matic couplers. How difficult is this and will I need any special tools for the job?

Go to the MTL site and look up the conversion. I hope you have one of the later LL FA's. With assembeled couplers, conversion will be very easy!

The coupler on the front of the PA is a MT1023, all the rest are MT1128's.

All you need is a very small screw driver to put the screw into the coupler on the PA, the 1128's fit into the coupler pockets on the rear truck of the PA and both trucks of the PB.

Not sure about the answer that has already been given.

If this unit is LL's most recent release (2000), then both ends should be replaced with the 1015/1016. Get the pre-assembled (“-1”) version for easy installation. They are the same that I used to replace my LL SD7 & GP20. It's pretty easy and should not require any special tools other than a pair of tweezers. Once you get the hang of it (after the first one), it should only take you a few minutes to replace the B unit.

1016s are all I used on my LL FA/FB set (Although I didn't swap out the front coupler).
