You can use flats as well, but an empty-full scenario might be harder to find. How about -- lumber from a mill to a furniture factory. The lumber would come in from the mill on a flat, but go out as finished furniture in a box car, so the flat would go back empty to the mill. You could also maybe do this with bulkhead flats or centre-spline cars, but lumber would still be the load. The coal mine - power plant is the classic, but not the only one. If your era is "older" there were lots of different materials carried in gondolas that are now in hoppers, on specialized flats, or other types of cars. Sugar beets in drop-bottom gondolas would require a pretty specific protoype. That's all I can come up with for now. Good luck! Andrew
