Jamie,

As I recall, for HO scale you should have one-half oz. plus one-half oz. per inch length.

Typical caboose 3 oz
40 ft car 3.25 oz
50 ft car 4 oz
60 ft car 4.5 oz
70 ft car 5.25 oz

From the NMRA RP 20.1

HO is 1 ounce minimum + 1/2 ounce per inch of car. A 6 inch car should weigh 4 ounces. See:
