engine cleaning nightmare

I have aquired a large collection of engines and rolling stock from various manufacturers. This is a major collection! The previous owner oiled the engine wheels, steam & desiel, and had several cats. See where this is going? I have tried hand picking hair with tweezers but I won't live that long. Any ideas as to someway to remove this so that I may use these on my layout. I don't want to contaminate my track. ANY help welcomed

I was told by an old timer,70+ to soak the entire chassis in WD 40. I have`nt needed to try it, but it sounds reasonable to me because WD has quite a bit of alcohol which shouldent leave the unit too oily, after blow out with compressed air. Cans can be bought at electronic departments everywhere. Have fun!

WD40 and simular products does work but check it won't affect the paint first and make sure the compressed air is soft enough not to dislodge anything. Also keep some paper towels behind your model to absorb the oil/dirt and you may need to use the tube that comes with the aerosol can version to blast areas like gearboxes. Fore the hair try a soft long brush ( shaving or make-up ) and a vacuum cleaner. Good Luck
