NW J-Class

Hey guys I'm looking for info on where I can find a good pulling J class 4-8-4, I've been digging around and all I have been able to find is a Bachman Spectrum........ I have had bad expeirence before with bachman and have tried to stay away from it, do any of you have this loco and how well does it preform, and does it convert to DCC well???

Ray don't worry, I'm just dabbleing in steam nothing too serious..... YET.

The Bachmann Spectrum J is excellent, MUCH better than Bachmann's standard line. The J is very detailed and is DCC ready (meaning all you have to do is plug in a decoder and go). it's an excellent model.

I heard the Specrtum J was the bombdiggity, except there is somthing wrong with the tender drawbar. Yeah, its plenty heavy enough to get the job done too. They body looks very accurate to me. Some die-hard N&W dudes say the red paint on it is the incorrect shade.
If I were an eastern fan, I'd probably have one.

The Spectrum J is an excellent model.

Some of the early ones had the bars connecting the leading and trailing trucks to the frame swapped. The trailing truck one should be slightly shorter than the leading truck.

The loco to tender draw bar system needs to be deburred and lubricated (plastic compatible oil) if you ever want to back up a heavy train.

DCC is a snap.

Hey Guys thanks for the help.... I seem abit confusedwhile looking in the N&Z scale Wathers catalog Bachman only list one J-Class and it doesn't mention that is a spectrum, by chance do you have a part or item number I can give my dealer so he can search one down for me or can you direct me to a website?

Oh, you didn't say you were in N. I was talking about the HO one. I didn't even know Bachmann made an N scale J.
