As I understand, there are no noticable external differences between the two DASH 9's. However, there are differences during the production run of the DASH 9's so you may want to look at exactly which DASH you want to model and convert. Cab roof, rear carbody vents, number boards, steps, dynamic brake grids, and trucks have changed depending on who ordered them and when built. The DASH 9-40CW used number boards that were mounted on the cab roof, had the combination large and small vents on the right rear of the long body, and I belive have the latest (canted shocks) truck. I think that they were also 6 step versions. Athearn made a NS DASH 9 but it wasn't accurate.
