Spring Break - Bahamas or Basement?
Posted by pbjwilson on Wednesday, March 10, 2004 7:48 PM
Hey kids and codgers, who's going somewhere on spring break?

Better yet, if you had a choice, would you like to take the wife and kids to the Bahamas, or similiar destination, for a weeks vacation

oooor

Spend a week uninterupted in your basement working on your layout.

The way my vacations usually go I would choose the latter - How bout you?

Vacations or trains?
I'd be sitting on a beach catching some rays enjoying time with my wife and kids.

pbjwilson - So what goes on with your vacations? Sounds like they have been a bit disappointing.

It would depend on the season. If it's the dead of Winter with freezing temperatures and (groan) more and more snow to shovel, I'd opt for the Bahamas! Any other season? I'd encourage the wife and kids (if I had either) to vacation without me. The fun I could have in my basement while they were gone!

Trains and time I have plenty, its money that is in short supply. You will find me in my usual place, right here on the forum or in the basement working on the layout.[:D]

well i'm going up north for friday-sunday for bowling so thats my spring break. going with my parents, visiting a college, should be fun. our family trips were horrible when i was younger. trips from hell as i call them. i'd get yelled at if i asked for something to eat. had to write notes to my mom so my dad wouldn't get mad. his job is causing a lot of stress so its nice to get away for awhile but when he goes back he's pissed. he's in Baltimore right now. left last wednesday and comes back tomorrow. can't wait to finally see him. its been a long time.

i'm not a fan of flying at all, never have but don't want to. so i'd probably stay home or something. can't gurantee i would work on trains the whole time but i'd stay home.

I would send the wife and kids, and then spend the week of solitude by myself.

My vacations seldom cater to my intrest. We go to the beach and I end up sitting in the room drinking beer and watching cable, however we do get the ocean view rooms so i can look at it.

I'll be in the dining room, because that is where my layout is. I'm a big fan of vacations, but my vacation savings account is dry for the moment. My wife and I took a two-week vacation to Los Angeles (Disneyland) and Las Vegas last September and a week at DisneyWorld in Orlando last month. We are big Disney fans... we belong to the Disney Vacation Club, which is like a time-share at Disney Resorts.

Our next big vacation is what I am calling the EXTRAVAGANZA!! Next January we are taking our kids (27-year-old son and 20-year-old daughter) to DisneyWorld for one last big blowout family vacation.

We haven't been on vacation with our son in 10 years and our daughter since her senior year in High school two years ago. I figure it will probably be the last time the four of us ever vacation together, so I hope it will be a memorable one. Even the kids are psyched about it, so I think it will be one for the memory books.

Go for the trip, always take advantage of travel whenever the opportunity happens. The layout will always be there and in the long term you'll be happier you spent the time with family.[8D]

   Have fun with your trains

"break"? what break? Not having been in school for a while I forget about that strange, drunken institution...so no trip is planned, due to the fact that I get no time off.

I am planning an anniversary trip, though--to a nearby railroad museum, where I will help sort through archival photographs of trolleys all weekend while my wife studies for grad school! And when we get tired of reading, we'll ride the trolley! Seventh heaven!!

I'm getting in both. I'm leaving for the UK tomorrow (OK, no sand...) and will be taking the train from London to Aberdeen sometime next week. At least I'll be able to get some train watching and riding done on my vacation!

Observation: Nobody ever filmed a "Girls Gone Wild" video in a model railroader's basement.

No spring break, but will take 8 days in late June and early July to drive to drive my A-unit (2003 Z06 Corvette) to Seatle for the NMRA convention and then take 8 days to return. The plan is to hit every train activity between here and there. Otherwise the basement.

For me It would be a week of watching trains some where warmer then here in Wisconsin[:D] The problem is we don't get a full week for spring break!!! I think this is because of that new law that the state of Wisconsin passed that school can start before labor day. Either way I feel like i'm gettting jipped[:(!][:(!][V][V][:(][:O]
