I have heard that these are decent runners, but some of the detailing (especially the handrails) is pretty poor by today's standards. The model can be a good starting point for a detailing project.

If you're asking about the ones made by ConCor five or six years ago, they are terrible. ConCor still used an open frame motor in them that seems to be made for an N-scale engine. Conversion to DCC was a nightmare because the motor frame was screwed directly to the metal chassis and isolating it was very difficult. I made the mistake of purchasing two Missouri Pacific models, and wish I had bought a different brand instead of wasting my money on ConCor.

I purchased two Con Cor SD24's last Christmas. I learned that they were late 1980's technology. They in their day were comparable to the Atlas engines.

I just finished the decaling and painting for the models and are working on the Kaydee Coupler problem. They are rather easily serviced after you remove the body and the truck sideframes.

They will be rather plain next to today's Atlas SD24 offering in the Southern Roadname however, they will perform quite well having been in storage for a number of years.

I would not wi***o purchase another Con Cor unit. I feel that I was rather fortunate in way things came out.

They are very poor runners.You would be better off with an Athearn.I dont know what they did different from Atlas when they took over the sd24-35 but they dont run as well.Dan

My experience with ConCor HO scale locomotives is that some are excellent runners, and some are awful, even within the same model....

The MP15 is the only one that I am aware that is a "true" ConCor locomotive. Thier SW7 is the old Revell shell, thier SD24/35, GP38/40 are the old Roco units built for Atlas, the E7/9 are the old Roco units built for Model Power.

A friend of mine purchased a pair of ConCorSD24s. I recognized the old Atlas body. They looked "decent" but these locomotives were very light in weight and running was average. [8)]

For the money my friend could have paid ten to fifteen dollars more and purchased the newer, high quality Atlas SD24 off of Ebay or at discount model dealers.

He's going to have to do additional work to them to prepare for DCC.

I have one one their old N scale F3As, interesting little thing - the proportions are very "squashed" looking - too wide, and the nose looks too short. However, it's one of the finest runners out there - has a Fleischmann chassis fitted, same design as their newer German locos, so servicing and parts are easy. There are traction tyres and as a result it'll pull anything you can hook behind it. Worth keeping an eye out for on eBay!

They only offer a 30 warranty.

I have several of the Concor HO MP15s and they run great. It was easy to change them over to DCC. I used a Digitrax Plug-N-Play decoder for the Atlas engines.

They are way too light in weight but I just MU 3 or 4 of them together just as the LEF&C RR did in real life.

As for detail my layout is an operations layout not a rivit counter one so I can always go back and add ectra detail when I run out others things to do!

I am really interested in the new Con Cor Pioneer Zephyr model, but have decided to not go ahead and order one, because of my experience with other Con Cor locomotives. When all you have ever seen is poor running cheap locos it is hard to justify risking a $300 purchase sight unseen.

I bought a used Con-Cor GP38. Runs like my new Atlas GP38. Detail is darn close to
the Atlas too.
