Ressurection II From Trails to Rails

Aggro asked a very good question regarding getting some of the old classics back on the rails.

Though I fully support the efforts of many turning rails to trails the question is:

If you could, is there any section of track you would like to see ressurected so you could run an excursion train on it?

For me it would be a section of track in my neck of the woods that use to be a branchline between Dartmouth (Nova Scotia) and Middle Musquodboit. Lots of bridges, marshes, a causeway, ocean scenery and rivers.

Don't worry I would plenty of room for hikers and bikers

Fergmiester, can't think of any offhand here in my part of the country. My thoughts are that it may be hard to ressurect an old abandoned rail line with todays costs and liabilities. Would I like to see it, of coarse, and with steam as motive power. I found by accident a web sight about "railbikes". I thought it would be kind of nice if when a railroad abandoned a branch line such as you are talking of, leave the tracks in place so people could peddle their way into the back country. Just a thought. Regards

Absolutely in agreement here, This is one of those "The sky is the limit" and "dreamscape" questions. Born from my morning of ballasting, more to the point ballast for 20 forum for five. As I find ballasting hard on the elbows and neck

The Pinellas Trail in St. Petersburg Florida which was formerly an Atlantic Coast Line Railroad line. Was abandoned by CSX in the late 80s-early 90s.

Ironically the population along this trail has increased greatly. It was rumored that civic leaders wanted it as a commuter line, but taxpayers were not willing to pay for it.

Ironically, there was a Jersey Central line that ran through south Jersey to Barnegat. It was out of service for years and when I went back to visit some years later it was finally gone. But the population around that area has increased and it seems that it might have been useful now.
