Predict the MR 2003 product of the year!
Posted by AggroJones on Tuesday, February 24, 2004 11:05 PM
I just got through voting in the MR Reader's Choice Awards, and got to thinking. What is your prediction of the winner? Say what you want, but you know it boils down to a battle of the HO steam locomotives. I'm guessing a victory for the Lionel UP 4-6-6-4. Either that or the BLI 2-6-6-4. [bow]

What do you think will be voted "product of the year"?

I called Ms. Cleo and she said it would be the n scale SW1500--oh wait, that's the 2010 product of the year!! All kidding aside, n scale manufacturers need to make this engine! Am I alone on this one? I think you're right though Aggro about this year's winner.

My guess for next year though is gonna be Atlas' n scale Shay!

Bruce Chubb's SMINI board. It is so far ahead of anything else in the field and is really revolutionary. At least that is what I voted for. Even if you don't plan on having a signal system, I suggest you read the series of articles Dr. Chubb just did in MR, some really great stuff.

The Spectrum 4-8-2 looks good. But I voted for the Rivarossi FEF-3. Such detail!!!! No diesel good ever overcome its quality. Either the FEF or maybe the Lionel 4-6-6-4.

Tell me who spent the most advertizing dollars and I'll tell you who the winner is going to be.

Dear ndbprr,
I'm guessing you were joking about advertising having an influence over the Readers' Choice voting. Just in case you weren't, however, I'd like to note that no one here at Kalmbach has any influence over the choices. The manufacturers nominate their own products and the readers cast the votes. The votes are counted automatically, not by a member of the MR staff. We pay for the printing of the ballots and purchase the awards, but we don't choose either the nominees or the winners.
Thanks for reading Model Railroader,
Terry

Nooooooooooooooo! [;)] No diesel can overcome the appeal of a massive steamer. [swg]

I will go for the Broadway Limited N&W Class A 2-6-6-4. I think this would be the second loco in a row for Broadway!

It's gotta be the BLI 2-6-6-4.[bow]
The Lionel engine[xx(] is not even in the same class with BLI.

You can't be serious that the hype MR chooses to give or not give a product doesn't have any bearing on who wins. I can pretty much predict right now that BLI will win in HO even though every engine has had serious problems which has never been mentioned that I recall in any of your magazines.

BLI will probably win, even though, I still voted for the Spectrum Heavy 4-8-2.

The Rivarossi FEF is the best I have ever seen. BLI is overated.

Yes BLI is overrated. Lionel's Challenger is made in Korea (yuck!![xx(]). I had to stay traditional and voted for the Proto 2K Van Swerigan Berkshire.

You said it before i could!
I would like to see one of Kato's desial engines win, but it doesn't stand a change against a steam engine.

as for ndbprr:
very funny[:D]

It's got to be Hornby's Live Steam OO/HO loco.
