Where do i get a K-8b 2-8-0 loco?

I have seen pictures of a 2-8-0 loco that is usually in B&M paint, but havew not been able to find the same one for sale anywhere. its not made by bachmann, IHC, or MDC who sell 2-8-0s that are similar but not as nice as this one that ive seen in MR on a few occasions. its also been labled as a class K-8B 2-8-0 i dont know what that means but i want to be as specific as possible. could this be an import or is their another manufacturer out thier that im overlooking? i have search walthers and a few other online train stores with no luck.

Use the "Index of Magazines" above to do a search on B&M and 2-8-0.

Also you should check all the on-line brass dealers.

Are you sure this loco is not Bachmann's 2-8-0? This loco is available in several New England roads and is a fairly generic consolidation from which, through kit-bashing, what you want, may be built. You do not state what road you are interested in, only that the one you have seen is a B&M.

I'd do the search as I seem to recall some articles regarding converting plastic engines into ones not available commercially. Hardest part of that job is starting if you have never done it before.

Hello Chris,

"K-8-b" is the Boston & Maine's classification for a particular version of 2-8-0. Imported brass HO models of the K-8-b class were available from Sunset in the 1980s, but to find one now you'd have to search through used brass dealers. The Bachmann Consolidation isn't very close, but it's probably about as close as you can come for a model to kitbash.

Well first i would like to thank everyone for their help, it seems that this loco may be a brass import of some kind in which case i cant afford it anyway so i may go with the bachamnn 2-8-0 and try my hand at a little kitbashing! oh and to answer Deschanes Q i am looking for it in B&M paint.

If your going to kit-bash, it doesn't matter what road. Just buy some Micro Scale decals and your ready to go after the kit-bashing and painting. There is an article in the Steam Engine Projects & Ideas book about kit-bashing a Central Vermont 2-8-0 from a Bachman 2-8-0. This is a fairly new book from Kalmbach. Its a good book and well worth the money,
