P2K USRA 0-8-0

Does anybody have any suggestions on how to disassemble this engine for routing maintenance (lubricaring the worm & drive gear)? Life-Like provides only a very vague reference to the procedure and does not identify locations of the snap fittings.
A call to Like-Like did not locate anyone there who could be of help!

In the past, if I had problems with a Proto 2000 locomotive, I've sent it right back to the company and let them handle it, if it is still under warranty or even if it isn't better to let the experts handle it instead of going at it alone a risk damaging a $225 locomotive. I've got a P2K 2-8-8-2, hence the name if I ever had problem with I would send it back and pay $20-30 on shipping, handling, and repairs than sucking $225 up to a bad experience. If you plan to be lubricating your locomotive on a regular basis and you've sent it out once chances are you will probably get the name of some lubricated it at the home office from the service invoice and you can find out that way.

I had to replace the draw bar on my 2-8-8-2.(LL sent out the part VERY quickly after a call to them.) You are right about the directions being vague. I found I had to remove some of the add-on piping, grab irons, and cab. The steam dome has a screw and washer under it.(2882) Be careful and don't pull on anything. My loco came apart quickly with NO snap fittings. Just remember to keep track of the location of parts removed. And went back together the same way.
Call you local train shop and ask them if they have knowledge of these locomotives. I found just to work slowly and carefully and all was well.

Good Luck,
LCM
