I was wondering if my model rectifier corp (model 500n with I think 1.5 amps) was bad for my older AHM rr big boy seems under powered and my bachmann taxas chugger2-10-4 craped out first day (this friday the 13) I have a to of the even older tyco model 899b and now that the chuggeris only working in foward did I kill it with the throttlepack and can I find the proper wire codes for older backman locos (jupiter chugger consolidator) and can I clean up my drivers in the power suppply

Budliner, I don't think your loco is shot. Try this: with your loco running forward stop your train, leave the reverse switch on the power pack alone. Remove the wire leads from the pack and reverse them. turn the power pack back on. Your loco should now run backwards. If it does the the reversing swith on the pack is bad. Another way is if the loco is running forward stop it. take the loco of the track and replace it on the track facing the opposite direction. If you didn't move the reverse switch, the loco should now run backward. You can contact Bachmann for those wire codes or visit them at bachmanntrains.com.

To salvage your 2-10-4, you are going to have to do something like this:
http://users.zoominternet.net/~pmd/2-10-4%20upgrade.htm
glueing them back together does not work.

The 500n uses a reostat to control the power to the track. It will not work with many modern locomotives because thier motors do not draw enough current. It will not hurt them, they'll just run fast.
