[/quote] <br /> <br />Dave, never said there were no sleepers in the 1850's, there were sleepers, but most were no longer than 40-42' in length. it was rare to see a 50' car in the 1850's as the underframe trusses were made of wood, it wasn't until the late 1860's that steel started to become the standard for the underframe trusses and thus longer cars. <br /> <br />Jay
