This is working for me: Start with 4x8 ply wood and lay track for layout with switches only. This will help you identify what works and what dosen't. Don't secure the track until you are certain that your layout has the right radius on your turns, correct #turnout required, etc. I found out that I couldn't run the motive power I wanted in the space I had. Be enthusiastic about model railroading but don't try to build the Union Pacific all in one fell swoop. If anything, I learned that patience is the best virtue, defenitely where model railoading is concerned. <br /> <br />John
