Spell check option for Forum

I also use ieSpell checker and it works great. I often transpose letters when I type. Comes from being left handed or something. [%-)]

Upon further reflection and after reading several hundred posts in the interval, I have to say that most people haven't figured out how to spell. I read one post where the person insisted upon using " 's " to indicate a plural, used the wrong word, using "waist" when they meant "waste". A spell checker just doesn't work for those types of mistakes.

I guess it's due to my non-liberal private school upbringing that we were taught spelling for 8 whole years! I had a professor of history in college who told us at the beginning of the semester that he would take off points for misspellings, bad grammar, and especially for the incorrect use of the apostrophe.

I don't understand why people still believe that the correct way to indicate plural is to add an apostrophe between the last letter of the word and the "s", or use it for words ending in "y", where the plural is usually "ies", not "y's"......ARRRGGHHHH!!!! I'm all for people expressing themselves, but at least, express yourself intelligently.

I'm reminded of a statement someone made to us about presenting our case before a city government. If we went in there looking like a bunch of hicks, they wouldn't listen to us. So, appearance, not only in dress, but also in presentation of the written word, is desirable.

PS If we could also teach the northerners to spell tires without a "y" and color without a "u" things would be nearly eutopian.

Besides it gives some folks a reason to argue when they absolutely have nothing better to say.....

Usualy it's just a case of typing too fast , But it could help those who are trying to learn who can't spell as good as the next person & be a part of this group at the same time.

I'm not talking about typos. I mean the obvious misspelling of a word. I have no problem with people who are trying to learn and certainly do not want to alienate them. But on the other hand, if you wrote a letter to the President of your company, do you think it would mean as much if it were full of misspellings, incorrect grammar, etc.?

I'm not trying to be a 'spelling Nazi', I just think that the tools are readily available for people to use in expressing themselves better. For typos, there's always the backspace key and if you catch it after you've submitted the post, there's the edit function.

Just my opinion. Of course, I've also been told in the Navy that opinions are like [censored]-holes, everyone has one and most of them stink.

Maybe I just need to take a few weeks off from the forums - I'm sure it'll do all of us some good.

Hey Joe........................I was wondering what the H#*% you were all bent out of shape about. I was replying to "FERGUS" in my fist reply,................ You know the one who posted this. ...................Not you. You had me scratching my head for a while wondering whatthehell I did to tick you off, So I went through the posts again & finaly figured it out. WOW , watching Nancy Drew , Hardy boys did pay off after all. I'm on the right track now . "HAVE A GOOD ONE" Think I"ll post a name to who I'm talking to next time. * sigh * . If I gave you the impression that you had bent me out of shape, I sincerely apologize. I posted that note quoting you because I was afraid I had not expressed myself properly in the previous posts. I don't mind people making typos, or the occasional misspelling. What got me wound up enough to start this thread rolling again was a posting I had read in another forum, where the author obviously didn't even bother to try to spell words correctly. I don't want to get any more specific than that, since my aim is not to embarass anyone, but to encourage people to check their spelling. A lot of times, we mean one thing and spell it such that it takes on a new meaning entirely. For example: "My waist is two large." as opposed to "My waste is too large." I believe we called them homophones in English grammar, words that sound alike but spelled differently.

Well, this is a touchy issue as i can see, yes a spell check would be nice, but we've been down this Stupid road before, and i guess we will have to go down it again.

Hey guys! If someone spells Brown like Brnow, you should still be able to pick out the word! According toa HARARD university Study, Anyone who has the mental age of about 8, which is approximately garde 3 or 4 english, should be able to detect the root word..

I'm guessing about 100% of the people on this site have passed grade 3 or 4 english, matter of fact I'm guessing 100% of you passed garde 8 or 9 English...

SO please..

Doesn't anyone have any bigger problems in their life, or are we stuck obsessing over bad spelling?

Well now considering how long since I posted this this thread I would say by the response it wasn't a do or die issue.

Personally I like spell check because it keeps me and only me in check. If I don't check my wurk it wil slooly go don tha toobs. I reeely doent want that!
