Freaky consist!

Today while coming home from work, I saw 3 Amtrak Dash 8-32BHWs moving high speed with a consist of a few Horizon fleet coaches, metroliner cars, a D&RGW "ski train" smoothsider, and an unidentified road's Budd dome car! I was in disbelief. It was kinda surreal seeing those cars pass by together. I guess it was a special excursion.

I think I saw the same train heading out of downtown this past weekend--definitely a strange combination! I think there are a few railfan "snow trains" scheduled, perhaps this was one of them...nice thing about living so near the mainline, we get to see all the oddball stuff that passes through!

4884BigBoy,

They're -8 32 BWHs. I think Amrak calls them P32s. They're nicknamed "Pepsi Cans" for obvious reasons. Except for the F40s in "Cabbage Service", the Pepsi Cans are Amtraks oldest diesel units used in mainline passenger service. There was a group of them here in Florida in the early 90s used for the Auto Train service. They were also assigned to the Southwest Chief back when they were new. The genesis units have pretty much taken over most long haul services.

I saw it again today! On the same line, but going the opposite direction. Strange.

I saw a special excursion pass by my work last year, two restored PRR E-8's leading several Amtrack liners and a few other passenger cars from some fallen flags, don't remember which now though. Derfinately something to see.
