Yep, they can be used. They were 12Volt and would be compatible with todays powerpacks. I suppose that they were state of the art for their day but they never were the best operating locos. They would however run about 300 scale MPH!!! HAHA!! Don't know if the rubber drive bands are still available. My best advice is put them on the bookshelf and admire them as a piece of model railroad history or gut them out and run them as dummy locos. You'll be much happier with the Athearn, Atlas, Kato and etc geared locos. Take Care and Have Fun...Vic <br /> <br />
